About JMJ Books
JMJ Books is a small Catholic press. We publish faithful editions of the Church's classic texts, along with other books and resources for Catholic homes, parishes and classrooms.
The name
For generations, Catholic schoolchildren wrote three letters at the top of every page of their work: J.M.J., for Jesus, Mary and Joseph. It was a small act of dedication, offering the work to the Holy Family before it was begun. We named the press for that habit, and every book we make is offered the same way.
What we publish
Much of what we publish is the classic work of Catholic teaching and devotion: catechisms, prayer books and the writings of the saints. These are the texts that formed Catholics for centuries, and many of them have become hard to find in a clean, well-made edition.
Alongside the classics, we make new books and resources of our own, for teaching the faith to children, praying at home and passing the faith on.
Our first title is the Baltimore Catechism No. 1, illustrated for children. More are in preparation.
How we make them
- The text comes first. When we publish a classic, we reproduce the original word for word and say plainly which edition it comes from. We do not modernize, abridge or paraphrase without telling you.
- New work is marked as new. Illustrations, introductions and page design are original to our editions, and we say so.
- Made to be used. We set our books in clear type with sensible layouts, so they work at a kitchen table, in a classroom or in a pew.
